Fraza do cytowania: Muszyńska M., Rzymski P., Bilski B., Wilczak M. Infrasound impact on the health of the pregnant women. Current status of knowledge and laws. Polski Przegląd Nauk o Zdrowiu. 2017;2(51):207–212.

In 2010, Polish law explicitly tidied term infrasound introducing the PN-86/N-01338:1986 amendment to the PN-Z-01338: 2010 which establishes infrasound noise spectrum ranging from 1 Hz to 20 Hz and low frequency audible. Despite claims that infrasound can cause a variety of unpleasant symptoms, effects of infrasound on humans have not been sufficiently studied. Research suggest that infrasound can affect organ vestibulocochlear, cardiovascular, behavioral and neurophysiological and excite vibrations of the body. Infrasound found their use in obstetrics in the form of vibroacoustic stimulation (VAS). VAS test involves stimulation of the fetus with a probe and promotes proper assessment of fetal health. The reaction of a healthy stimulated fetus manifested by behavioral changes and acceleration of cardiac function, their absence may indicate hypoxia of central nervous system or the presence of hearing disorders in the fetus. Currently, the only valid guideline regulating the impact of infrasound on a pregnant woman is the Regulation of the Minister on the list of works prohibited to the women. Despite the existence of standards in labor law there is no reliable research source, which became the basis for their creation. The guidelines should be strictly regulated to avoid high levels of infrasound in medical procedures. For smaller levels of exposure, especially with regard to prenatal diagnosis, exist lack of published specific threats but we have not enough research to reach a conclusion about their absence, especially when it comes to long-term effects. The authors therefore recommend that pregnant women in the workplace vulnerable to exposure to infrasound a temporary change of workplace or closure (certificate of temporary incapacity for work, ZUS ZLA). Desirable further, comprehensive randomized study that will outline guidelines.

Key words: exposure to infrasound, pregnant women, vibroacoustic stimulation (VAS), polish low.
