The paper is a review of the literature in the area of the importance of empathy and methods of supporting social cognition in children. Presents selected methods and techniques for working with children in this area. They require the involvement of adults - mostly parents and other people connected emotionally with the child. The result of this work is to develop empathy or sensitivity of the child to the needs of others and to sensitize others to the needs of the child. The benefits of these methods can be seen among others in the dental office. Little patients establish better contact with the doctor, which facilitates the healing process. Support and empathy development, also in the cognitive aspect is particularly important for disabled mental or physically children, with which to make contact may be difficult.
