Introduction. The term "prenatal diagnosis" defines all invasive and non-invasive tests that are performed before the child is born.
Aim. The purpose of this thesis is to present the current state of knowledge of pregnant women about prenatal examinations as well as the disturbance of the legal, moral and ethical aspects associated with prenatal diagnosis.
Material and methods. The subject of the work was carried out using the scientific literature of the subject and articles presenting the position of specialists of the Polish Gynecological Society as well as the author's questionnaire survey.
Results. Only 2% of pregnant women have no knowledge of prenatal examinations. 83% of respondents believe that prenatal tests are safe for the fetus, 14% do not know whether prenatal tests are safe and 3% believe that prenatal testing is dangerous. The most prenatal information a pregnant woman draws from a conversation with a doctor, as well as the internet and books.
Conclusions. The knowledge and awareness of pregnant women about prenatal examinations is high.
