The influence of mother body weight on the pragnancy, childbirth and the condition of a new-born child

Introduction. The body weight of a human has great influence on his life and health. It is important in every life stage. It considers also potential mothers and pregnant women. Aim. The aim of this work was to prove if and how far has the weight of body of pregnant mother on the course of pregnancy on childbirth and on condition of a newborn child. Mother before the pregnancy were compared with each other (underweight, norm, underweight, obesity) and women with different body weight increase in the pregnancy (insufficient, average, excessive). Material and methods. The survey involved 162 women who live in province Wielkopolskie and Lubelskie. In this group there were ca. 25 woman with underweight, 93 average women and 44 overweight women before pregnancy. Then, these women were divided according to the gain of body weight in pregnancy: 29 women insufficient gain of body weight in pregnancy, 63 in norm and 70 with excessive gain of body weight during the pregnancy. Research data was analysed according to age, place of living, education, order of pregnancy, the gain of the body weight before pregnancy and the gain of body weight in pregnancy. Results. It was noticed that there is a connection between the gain of body weight and abnormalities of placenta (p = 0,035). The medical activities during the childbirth were administrated by women before the age of 35 and the quantitude decresaed with following pragnancy. The way of ending the pragnancy was connected with the order of pregnancy, place of residence, the body weight before the pragnancy and the gain of body weight during it. The body weight of mother before pregnancy has the influence on the necessity of medical check-ups of fetus during childbirth and the gain of body weight of mother during the pregnancy has the influence on how much does the newborn child weigh (p = 0,026). Conclusions. The body weight of women before pregnancy and the gain of body weight in pregnancy wasn't connected with age, place of residence, education, merital status and disorder of fertility. Resuscitation of a new-born child the necessity to bring the child in neonatal ward or intensive medical-care pathologies which are found by a new-born child after childbirth or the pathologies of the fetus during pregnancy, scoring in the scale of Agpar weren't connected with the body weight of mother before pragnancy, the gain of body weight in pregnancy age of the mother her place of residence or the order of pregnancy.
