Introduction. Caesarean section is the most common surgical procedure in obstetrics. That means that woman after c-section is a subject of everyday midwife care. One of the most important tasks is providing professional lactation care, which leads to successful breastfeeding process. Breastfeeding is the only optimal way of feeding newborns and infants. Discussion. Caesarean birth causes many problems which may affect breastfeeding. They are connected with mother's as well as newborn's condition. Lactation care guidelines include few components distinctive to mothers who have underwent c-section. Crucial components of management include "skin to skin" contact, early breastfeeding initiation, avoiding feeding newborns with formula milk, practicing rooming in system and proper analgesic therapy. Conclusions. Midwife is responsible for professional lactation care, which allows to overcome breastfeeding problems caused by caesarean birth.
