The aim of the study was to draw attention to the ability of setting economic and realistic goals, which are significant in areas including the process of planning and developing of health behaviour. It presents the applications of the S.M.A.R.T. psychological method which is one of the most popular techniques used in management, support of analysis and control of the completion of specified short, medium, and long-term tasks. The theoretical foundations of the S.M.A.R.T. technique assume the application of such five requirements as simplicity, measurability, achievability, relevance, and timeliness. Thus, the formulation of the goals using the technique takes place according to a specific set of criteria which refer to the maximum precision and clarity of the goal, its numerical (quantitative) expression, determining most desirable expectations which are attractive, ambitious, and realistic as well as time bound. In further modifications it is advised that the set goals should also be strongly exciting, recorded and formulated in a positive way.

Key words: health, health behaviour, goals, psychology, smart.
