Evaluation of the impact of students’ diet on the results obtained in the course of study

Introduction. Recently, among young people so-called “healthism” becomes more popular. Properly balanced diet prevents various diseases, affects the maintenance of acid-base balance of the body and cognitive and intellectual abilities of young people. Aim. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of dietary habits on the school results. Material and methods. A proprietary online survey consisting of 24 questions, that included open and closed questions has been applied. More than 600 students from Poland were involved in this study. Participants in the survey were students from various universities and they were characterized by different age and fields of study. Results. The results showed positive correlation between diet and student learning outcomes. Pearson's correlation analysis was applied. Conclusions. Feeding behavior that complies with rules of proper nutrition may be an important factor in the effectiveness of the learning process, improvement of learning results and facilitating the knowledge acquisition.
