Viral encephalitis is a kind of neuroinfection caused by viruses of all different types. Usually the infection has an acute nature, with diffuse or focal encephalitis. It is characterized by the ability to initially damage nerve cells, resulting in permanent neurological consequences. The article describes a case of a 52-year-old patient with no significant medical history who, had suffered a deep quadriplegic paresis, with aphasia and dysphagia as a result of viral encephalitis. He was completely dependent on the home ground, required constant nursing care. Early and well-adapted physical rehabilitation and therapy of cognitive and speech functions enabled the patient to achieve independence in daily activities.

Key words: viral encephalitis, multifocal encephalitis, quadriplegia, neurological rehabilitation.
