Introduction. KDQOL is a specific for kidney diseases patient questionnaire used to measure the quality of life determined by health state. It includes elements important for kidney disease patients such as characteristic symptoms, burden of disease for patient and patient’s family, self-care and mobility dysfunctions. Aim. To measure utilities of health states by using KDQOL questionnaire. Material and methods. 111 final year students of Wroclaw Medical University took part in a questionnaire survey. Each students assessed 2 out of 32 randomly selected health states being a combination of 5 domains: burden of disease, symptoms, effects of disease, physical functioning and mental health, and 2 answer levels: problem present and absent. Respondents were asked to evaluate the health states with the use of TTO (time trade off) method. Results were analysed using linear regression method. Results. 218 answers were obtained. The worst health state was evaluated as 0.799 and the best as 0,961. R2 equalled 0.11. Statistically relevant variables were: burden of disease and functional limitations. Conclusion. Utilities for KDQOL questionnaire derived health states were found. According to medical students approaching graduation, domains that have a significant impact on health state utility of a dialysed patient with chronic kidney disease patients, were burden of disease and functional limitations.

Key words: TTO, KDQOL, utility, kidney disease.
