Introduction. Hypertension due to increasing prevalence posing an important public health and economic problem. Aim. The objective of the study was subjective assessment of the quality of life among patients with diagnosed and treated hypertension. Material and methods. Prospective study enrolled 112 patients (73 men and 39 women) with diagnosed and treated hypertension. Control group of healthy people consisted of 112 healthy subjects aged 18–65 years (corresponding to the number of sick persons). As a research tool for assessing the patients subjective quality of life with hypertension, a standardized quality of life questionnaire – WHOQOL-BREF was used in the Polish language version. Results. The results of a study have shown that quality of life in patients with primary hypertension was significantly lower compared to the control group. Significant statistical differences in the subjective evaluation of quality of life in patients concerned to the physical and psychological domains. Conclusions. Hypertension significantly impairs the quality of life among an adults especially in relation to the physical and mental quality of life.
