Fraza do cytowania: Rysiak E., Osińska M., Kazberuk A., Czerech E., Fadrowski B., Dziadel M., Prokop I., Celińska-Janowicz K., Zaręba I. The role of iron in the human body. Polski Przegląd Nauk o Zdrowiu. 2017;3(52):379–384.

Iron as an element of micronutrients plays many important functions in living organisms. Aligned balance of iron prevents metabolic abnormalities important in the pathogenesis of many disease units. The state of iron overload is conducive to atherogenic and neoplastic processes, while the inadequate supply of this element is subclinical iron deficiency. It is important to control the level of this element in the body and its proper supply in the diet.

Key words: iron, iron deficiency, hem, anemia.
