Hypercholesterolemia is a metabolic abnormality. It is diagnosed by elevated levels of cholesterol in the blood plasma. The world depending on the region, this problem affects 3–53% of the male population and from 2–40% of the female population. Achieving a satisfactory level of cholesterol in the blood is associated with a range of costs. Although a large part of the money allocated to the treatment actually take drugs that other procedures also generate expenses. The aim of the study was to present the methods used in pharmacoeconomic analyzes and assessing the cost of pharmacological treatment of diseases associated with elevated cholesterol levels in the blood. Research technique used in the study is a review of selected scientific articles presenting pharmacoeconomic analysis in relation to the drugs used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. The collected data show that among the group of drugs used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia characterized by statins – the most commonly used in monotherapy and in combination. Statin therapy is cost‑effective.
