Introduction. Tracheal intubation is considered to be an optimal method of protection of airway, particularly in case of cardiac arrest. It allows for effective mechanical ventilation of patients and protects from possibile aspiration of gastric content. In manikin study the effectiveness of Truflex – new guide wire for intubation was assessed comparing with standard one. Material and methods. 51 students participated in the research. They were sophomores of Medical Rescue major at the faculty of Health Studies at Medical University of Lodz. Measurement was taken with use of manikin for difficult intubation. Each tested person had 3 attempts for every type of guide wires. Measuring started when the tested person grabbed laryngoscope and ended up when the correct position of intubation tube in trachea was confirmed. Results. Intubation effectiveness using truflex was higher than the standard one: 67.7% (107/158) vs 57% (91/159) respectivelly. Mean time of successful intubation was shorter for truflex. Among 51 first attempts of intubation 32 were successful using truflex comparing to 23 people for standard intubation wire. Conclusions. Truflex allows for shorter and more effective intubation than standard intubation guide wire.
