Objective. Breast-feeding is a meaningful stage in every child’s life. Aim of study. The aim of the study was to estimate the prevalence ratio of appearing lactation problems of women in the first year after birth with particular reference of family and friends support, as well as the medical staff. Material and methods. Examinations were conducted in the period February – April 2016 at nursery school No. 18 in Bydgoszcz, Non-public nursery school Bim-Bam-Bino in Toruń and University hospital No. 2 Dr. Jan Biziela in Bydgoszcz at Children's Neurological Ward. Research was conducted research anonymously via 120 mothers, using the questionnaire prepared by the author. Results. The course of the breast-feeding depends on demographic, psychosocial and obstetric factors. In the examined group of mothers contended with many adversities during lactation. The average length of the breast-feeding was half a year and longer (51.67%). Thanks to family and friends support and the medical staff actions mothers didn't have a problem with putting the child to the breast. The child caught the breast and sucked her it effectively. Children of mothers which kept contact "skin to the skin" directly after the childbirth, were characterized by a long stretch of the lactation. Conclusions. It is important to propagate the breast-feeding and raise the level of the theoretical and practical knowledge of the medical staff which is supplying information as well as supporting women in keeping the optimum period of the natural breast feeding.
