Stress – psychosocial work-related hazard among paramedics

Introduction. Stress is considered to be one of the main determinants affecting workplace in a negative way. Stress in workplace is the main health and security hazard for workers of almost every profession. Lately special focus was put on the health service workers. Aim. The aim of the article was assessment of occupational stress medical rescuers working on the Standalone Ambulance Service and Sanitary Transport Stations in the area of eastern Polish. Material and methods. Authorial survey created for this work and Subjective Work Assessment Questionnaire were the research tools. The survey was conducted on the group of 50 paramedics. Results. The level of stress experienced by the respondents was high. Factors such as age, sex, marital status, education levels, social and living conditions, the monthly salary, work experience, the possibility of loss of employment does not impinge on the intensity of occupational stress in the study group. The cast of ambulances and broadly defined working conditions affect the perception of occupational stress. Conclusions. It is necessary to implement preventive strategies, which priority will be to minimize the frequency of stress symptoms and the phenomenon of burnout syndrome among paramedics.
