Introduction. Pro ana is an online community, guided by the ideology that anorexia nervosa is not an eating disorder but a lifestyle. Activity of pro ana contains advising on restrictive dieting. Among contents of pro ana sites there are examples of menus used by the pro ana bloggers, which are also dietary recommendations for the followers. Aim of the study. The assesment of nutritional value of diets promoted by the pro ana bloggers. Comparison with recommended nutritional norms and with results of similar studies measuring the nutritional value of the preferred diet for patients with anorexia nervosa in order to state the size of the risk for somatic and mental health. Material and methods. 100 of randomly selected menus from public pro ana blogs were assessed by quantitative and qualitative analysis. The results were referred to the current nutritional recommendations of the National Food and Nutrition Institute. Results. The results show extremely low nutritional value of pro ana menus. Average nutrients content of the diets was between 16.98–83.34% of recommended nutritional norms. The most frequently consumed product groups include: vegetables, cereals and dairy products, and the least frequently – fish, eggs, and fats. Conclusions. The results indicate serious discrepancies between nutritional values of pro ana diets and the nutritional recommendations. Pro ana diets also seem to be more restrictive than anorexic patients’ eating habits. Promoted by pro ana bloggers eating patterns may seriously endanger somatic and mental health. The results indicate the need to take preventive action, and in clinical practice - to pay attention to patients’ identification with pro-ana community.
