Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the world. The main risk factor for its development is smoking tabaco and exposure to industrial toxins. The disease is characterized by a significant tendency for recurrence. Initially it is asymptomatic and its first symptom, which is hematuria, is often neglected. For this reason, about 25% of cases are diagnosed in advanced stage – when the tumor infiltrates the bladder muscles. In these cases, the treatment of choice is the treatment of bladder removal, ie cystectomy. In the remaining group of patients it is possible to implement less invasive treatment such as transurethral electroreduction. Surgical treatment is the primary treatment for bladder cancer. In order to increase its efficacy, combination therapy is used, which involves the use of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Currently, immunotherapy is developing as a new method to support the treatment of bladder cancer. The use of monoclonal antibodies is a kind of light in the tunnel in the fight against this cancer. The key is education of the society and the medical staff. Rapid diagnostics allows you to improve your chances of cure, at least slowing the progression of the disease.

Key words: bladder cancer, cystectomy, electroresection, immunotherapy.
