Urolithiasis is a socially significant disease affecting broad part of the society. It is a chronic disease characterized by high percentage of recurrence. Patients suffering from urolithiasis often require a medical intervention. The aim of the study is to present the problem of reduced quality of life in many of its aspects in patients with urolithiasis. Literature review was performed using PubMed database and selected keywords. Articles relevant for this subject were identified and analyzed. Significant reduction of various parameters defining quality of life in patients with urolithiasis was observed. The main factors associated with lower quality of life are frequency of renal colic incidents and also number, type and invasiveness of performed medical interventions. Higher acceptance of minimally-invasive procedures was observed.

Key words: urolithiasis, renal colic, quality of life, lithotripsy.
