Introduction. The principles of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) exist in virtually all aspects of medical practice and function almost in the entire health service. Their correct use depends on the knowledge of these principles among all employees of medical care, including doctors with various specialties, e.g., ophthalmology. Aim. The aim of the study determined the level of familiarity with the degree of use of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) standards in ophthalmology in Poland. Material and methods. The study was carried out in the form of an anonymous questionnaire on a group of 114 respondents dealing with eye diseases in 2018. Results. The EBM idea proved popular with most ophthalmologists. The vast majority of them saw the potential and possibilities of applying EBM standards. However, accurate knowledge as well as reliable ability to use the EBM principles are still at the highest level. Doctors use them mostly only in specific medical cases.
