The family birth from the perspective of the father

The presence of a partner – a father during the labour is becoming more and more common in obstetrics. One of the condition of partner‑assistant birth is the real bond between spouses which can strengthen during such birth. That bond constitutes the multidimensional field in which a wife and a husband interact. Aim. the aim of the paper is to present a father as a person who is actively engaged in family birth. Material and methods. to conduct the study a diagnostic survey was used. It was a self‑made survey consisting of 25 questions. In the research there was a group of 101 fathers who participated in partner‑assistant birth in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital of AMU in Poznań. The study was conducted from December 2015 to January 2016. Results. more than a half of couples (54%) took the decision of family birth before pregnancy. 42% of them decided on that during pregnancy and only 4% in a maternity unit. Conclusions. family birth has a positive influence on the bond between partners when the decision about it was jointly taken.
