Introduction. Introduction. Health behavior in pregnant women have an influence not only their health but also baby’s health, and that way on the family and the society in general. Elementary factors the proper health habits, prophylaxis, adequate nutrition, positive mental attitude form the general health behavior of an individual. Aim. Evaluation of selected health behavior of pregnant women and to estimate the relationship between socio-demographic factors and those behaviors. Material and methods. 200 pregnant women from the area of the Podkarpackie Province were enrolled in the study. The method used in the paper was a diagnostic survey and the tool was a standardized questionnaire to assess health behaviors-Health Behavior Inventory (IZZ). Collected material was analysed statistically with the SPSS program, adopting the level of probability at p < 0.05. Results. The level of education of pregnant women had no effect on the active smoking (p = 0.66) and passive smoking (p = 0.11), as well as their intake of alcohol (p = 0.11). Most of the respondents resigned from the consumption of alcohol at the time of they found out about their pregnancy. IZZ analysis revealed that older pregnant women were more often characterized with healthy eating habits (p = 0.01), also married women were far more likely to have proper eating habits (p = 0.009). Better educated pregnant women had a higher level of health practices (p = 0.05). Older pregnant women with higher level of education had better mental attitude by IZZ. Conclusions. Although the subjects declared a high level of knowledge about the risk of the use of drugs in pregnancy, there is still a group of women who apply them. This provides a basis for reinforcing promotion and prevention actions. Moreover, a special group of women who should be covered by health education in terms of proper health practices are women with lower education, single and of younger age.
