Currently, flu is registered throughout the entire epidemic season. Influenza occurs with varying intensity and epidemic influenza is confirmed every epidemic season. Influenza infects people regardless of their age, latitude, time of year or political affiliation. Registration of disease cases depends not only on the epidemic season, but also on the reporting of patients to the doctor. The use of telemedicine especially for people who can use the internet seems to be very promising. It gives the possibility to confirm the symptoms at the primary care physician, shortens the waiting time, especially during the peak period of illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) informs that in the world there are 5-10% of cases of influenza in the world, while about 250,000 - 650,000 people die. It should be emphasized, however, that 28 thousand – 115 500 children under the age of five and 3.5 million acute influenza cases are registered. Infections caused by the influenza virus and the most common respiratory viruses infecting us can be confirmed by molecular biology methods with a single material collected from the patient. Influenza infection often causes multifluvial post-influenza complications that can result in death. Deaths due to influenza are recorded in every age range. For many years, medicine has had new anti-influenza drugs. They do not replace vaccination but are helpful in preventing complications. Since 1941, it has been known that the cheapest, the most effective method in preventing influenza is seasonal influenza vaccination. In the epidemic season 2018/2019, quadrivalent vaccines against split and subunit flu are available on the Polish pharmacy market.

Key words: influenza, diagnostics, influenza vaccines.
