Introduction. Cracow belongs to the cities where there is a high level of air pollution with PM10 during the heating season and Ozone levels out of the season. PM10 and Ozone O3 have been scientifically proven to have a toxic influence on the human helath that manifests iself mainly by the onset of respiratory diseases and allergy. that is why there is aneed of informing inhabitants about the air quality during the whole year. Information about the environmental health risk is given inter alia by the press. Aim. The assessment of the degree of informing about environmental health risk related to air pollution in Cracow by selected local daily newspapers issued in 2009–2013. Material and methods. A quality and exploration research with components of quantitative research have been conducted. The content of newspaper articles concerning air pollution in Cracow published in Dziennik Polski, Gazeta Krakowska and Gazeta Wyborcza in 2009–2013 has been analysed. A basic quantitative analysis has been prepared. The number of articles concerning air pollution in Cracow has been correlated with the monthly average values of Particulate Matter PM10 concentration and Ozone O3 in Cracow in 2009–2013 and on this basis graphs have been presented. Results. The differences in the number of published articles during the heating season (autumn‑winter period) and out of it (spring‑summer period) have been found. Journalists of the chosen press published more articles during the heating season. Conclusions. The indicated differences in informing about air pollution (the differences in the number of published articles) between the autumn‑winter period and the summer‑spring period may appear due to visibility, significance, the scale of the issue, namely the winter smog.
